Ph.D. studentship in image processing and pattern classification in neuroimaging at  the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, University College London

Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD studentship at UCL, Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience under the supervision of Prof Nilli Lavie. The PhD research is jointly funded by UCL impact http://www.ucl.ac.uk/beams/phd/funding/impact and Toyota Motor Europe and the research would involve behavioral and functional imaging (using fMRI) studies of attention and visual perception with a specific focus on visual image processing: image filtering and statistics related to different levels of perceptual load in the image and pattern classification of visual cortex responses using multivariate pattern recognition in neuroimaging methods. The PhD would be based in the UCL Attention and Cognitive Control lab directed by Nilli Lavie at UCL. For more information visit the lab website: http://www.icn.ucl.ac.uk/lavielab

The PhD start date would be September 2012.  Applicants should have a UK or EU nationality and a first-class degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. medical imaging, computer science, physics, computational neuroscience or engineering). Knowledge or experience (in image processing or neuroimaging analysis) and an MSc in a relevant subject are highly desirable. The PhD work would require strong programming skills (e.g. in Matlab, C/C++) as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
