The Division of Atherosclerosis and Vascular Medicine (DAVM), Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is searching for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow. Earliest start date: July 15th, 2012.
The identification of atherosclerotic plaques, especially rupture-prone plaques is of key importance in cardiovascular risk assessment. Imaging presents a promising avenue to assess atherosclerotic plaque burden and plaque composition. At DAVM we conduct clinical and pre-clinical research in the areas of atherosclerosis, lipoproteins, and cardiovascular disease. Several research projects are under investigation in the broader areas of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular imaging. The successful candidate will collaborate with clinicians and scientists in a stimulating work environment through the Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology Research Training Program (AVBR). We are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, has a passion for science and enjoys working as a member of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate is expected to take a leading role on the assigned project(s), under supervision and guidance of his/her mentor team.
Education:
-PhD in computer science, physics, mathematics, engineering discipline, or related field
-MD, MD/PhD candidates with adequate training/experience
Qualifications:
-Strong experience with image analysis, image processing, or computational methods, and/or statistics
-Strong experience with scientific programming using Matlab and other programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Java, Python).
-Should have one or more first author publications in peer-reviewed journals
The training program is supported by an NIH funded training grant. Compensation is based on NIH stipend levels which depend on the number of years of postdoctoral training. The successful candidate must be a citizen, non-citizen national, or a permanent resident of the United States. Medical benefits are available.
