An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Taosheng Liu's lab
at Michigan State University. The main aim of the project is to understand
neural mechanisms of attentional control, with a particular emphasis on the
representation of attentional priority for non-spatial properties. We use a
combination of visual psychophysics, fMRI, and data mining techniques to
investigate the fundamental mechanisms of attentional control. The
candidate should have a recent Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Psychology,
Neuroscience, Computer Science) and shared interests in the core research
area. A research background in perception and attention is ideal but not
required. Proficiency in programming is necessary (e.g., Matlab, C/C++),
and computing experience on the GNU/Linux platform is useful. Experience
with the fMRI technique is highly desirable but not required (experience
with other techniques such as EEG/ERP, TMS, is also welcome). The
successful candidate will have the opportunity to initiate new projects.

We have access to an excellent fMRI facility on Michigan State campus and
relevant faculty research interests include attention, perception, timing,
cognitive control, and decision making. We also have access to neuroscience
expertise via the interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program and computational
expertise via the Computer Science and Mathematics departments.

Starting date is flexible, but preferably before Feb, 2013. The initial
appointment is one year with the opportunity of renewal for additional
years. Review of candidates will start Sept 1, 2012 and will continue until
the position is filled. Informal inquiry is welcome via email to
tsliu at msu.edu. Application should include a CV, a brief statement of
research interests, the expected date of availability, and the names and
contact of three referees. To apply, go to https://jobs.msu.edu, click
“Search Postings” and enter 6568 in the Posting Number field.
