POSTDOCS IN VISUAL/COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE
UT-AUSTIN CENTER FOR PERCEPTUAL SYSTEMS
W/ ALEX HUK, LARRY CORMACK, & JONATHAN PILLOW
We are actively seeking multiple postdocs interested in visual perception, perceptual decision-making, and motor control. Work with Alex Huk, Larry Cormack, and Jonathan Pillow in a highly-collaborative group, plus potentially others, at UT-Austin's Center for Perceptual Systems.
Projects focus on 3D motion perception (specifically, how visual cortex combines motion and depth information available in dynamic 3D visual scenes), neural coding (i.e., how fleeting visual motion signals are interpreted by the parietal lobe), and sensorimotor integration (i.e., what aspects of sensory and cognitive signals flow to the motor system).
Postdocs will have the opportunity to learn and deploy a variety of integrated techniques: psychophysics, single and multiple neuron electrophysiology in behaving nonhuman primates, human fMRI, intramuscular electromyography, force plate measurements, face/head/eye tracking, and computational techniques. Our group has recently developed a flexible MATLAB-based infrastructure that allows all of these experimental techniques to be controlled by a common set of powerful but user-friendly extensions of the Psychtoolbox.
Interest and experience in some of the above will of course define the best-suited candidates. Only firm pre-reqs are (1) solid laboratory programming skills, and (2) potential for a 2+ year commitment to the position.
Contact Alex Huk (huk at mail.cps.utexas.edu, http://motion.cps.utexas.edu) for more information.
Position start dates are flexible and are supported by multiple NIH grants shared between Huk, Cormack, and Pillow. Also, the Center for Perceptual Systems is supported by a new NEI Training Grant (www.cps.utexas.edu). Additional associated faculty include Dana Ballard, Ila Fiete, Bill Geisler, Mary Hayhoe, Nicholas Priebe, Eyal Seidemann, Max Snodderly.
In-person informational meetings will be possible at the SFN meeting in October.
