Applications are invited for a Wellcome Trust funded postdoctoral
position to work with Dr Jonas Larsson on a project to study mechanisms
of centre-surround modulation in human visual cortex using functional
magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The experiments will be carried out
using the newly upgraded research-dedicated Siemens 3T Trio scanner at
the Department of Psychology, in combination with computational
modelling and psychophysics. The project may also draw on a range of
other techniques available in the department, such as state-of-the-art
eye tracking, TMS, and EEG. The variety and level of techniques used
makes this an excellent training opportunity for a well motivated candidate.

Candidates should hold a PhD in neuroscience or a related quantitative
discipline, and be highly motivated with a keen interest in quantitative
approaches to sensory perception and visual neuroscience. Strong
quantitative and problem-solving skills are essential, including a solid
background in numerical analysis and scientific programming using
Matlab/Octave (or equivalent). Previous experience with neuroimaging or
electrophysiological techniques and experimental design and/or
computational modelling is desirable.

The Department of Psychology at Royal Holloway is one of the top
Psychology departments in the UK, ranked 7th in the latest Research
Assessment Exercise. The Department has a thriving group of
internationally recognized vision researchers with expertise in a
diverse array of techniques.

The post is offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 14 months,
with potential for extension subject to funding. Starting date is
negotiable, but ideally no later than 1 January 2013.

Enquiries about the position should be addressed to Dr Jonas Larsson:
jonas.larsson at rhul.ac.uk <mailto:jonas.larsson at rhul.ac.uk>. Interested
candidates will have the opportunity to meet and discuss the project in
person with Dr Larsson at the Society for Neuroscience meeting in New
Orleans (13-17 Oct).
