The 2012 "Carl Zeiss European Young Investigator Award on Ophthalmic Research" goes to Juan Tabernero from Laboratorio de Óptica (LOUM) Murcia, Spain

 

About the Awardee

In his scientific career Juan Tabernero started focusing on the understanding of the compensation of aberrations between the cornea and the human lens.  In myopia research he investigated on peripheral optics of the eye and the implications that it might have on the myopia development. His current activities focus on the visual testing of a non-conventional solution for presbyopia  and developing a novel method to assess the dynamic stability against saccades of the human lens and intraocular lenses.

Juan Tabernero is a member of  the "Laboratorio de Optica de la Universidad de Murcia (LOUM)", funded and directed by Prof. Pablo Artal, working on Visual, Adaptive and Biomedical Optics. Find more information on LOUM here:  http://lo.um.es/

 

About the Award:

The "Carl Zeiss Young Investigator Award on Ophthalmic Research" is a joint effort between Carl Zeiss Vision and Carl Zeiss Meditec.

It will recognize a young researcher for his/her distinguished scientific contribution in the wider field of ophthalmic research , including visual psychophysics, physiological and biomedical optics and the research efforts to overcome the respective optical limitations of vision.

Award Ceremony and Award Lecture

The Award Lecture is titled "Applied Optics for better vision: New trends in cataract, presbyopia and myopia research" and will take place on Thursday 11 October 2012 from 14:15h till 15:05h at the European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER) 2012 meeting in Nice, France.
