Postdoctoral position in social decision making at Caltech
A postdoctoral position is available to study mechanisms for social
decision making in the awake macaque, as part of a joint effort by the
labs of Richard Andersen and Doris Tsao, and funded by the new Conte
Center for Social Decision Making at Caltech. Building upon knowledge
about circuits for decision making in the parietal and frontal lobes, and
circuits for representing faces in the temporal lobe, we seek to
understand where and how social information, especially faces, is used to
make decisions along social dimensions. For example, how are facial
stimuli categorized into gender or rank? How are facial rewards
represented? And to what extent are these processes unique for social
stimuli? We believe these are apt questions because the network of
face-selective regions in the primate temporal lobe most likely exists in
order to mediate social behavior related to faces, yet we have almost no
understanding of the higher order circuits mediating such behavior in the
parietal and frontal lobes. Techniques to be used include: fMRI,
electrophysiology, and/or optogenetics in the macaque. Successful
candidates should have a PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline, be
highly motivated, have strong quantitative skills, and work well with
others. Experience with macaque electrophysiology and/or fMRI is
especially welcome. Applicants should send a letter of interest and CV to
Richard Andersen ( <mailto:andersen at vis.caltech.edu>
andersen at vis.caltech.edu) and/or Doris Tsao
( <mailto:dortsao at caltech.edu> dortsao at caltech.edu).
