The Center for Machine Vision Research (CMV), University of Oulu, 
Finland, is renowned worldwide for its expertise in computer vision. 
Administratively, the CMV operates within the CSE - Department of 
Computer Science and Engineering.

CMV is now searching for a prominent candidate to work on the visual 
analytics of microscopic images as DOCTORAL STUDENT

The aim is to develop computer vision and image processing methods for 
visualization and analysis of microscopic images. The work will be 
carried out in collaboration with Biocenter Oulu.

A successful candidate should have a completed Master degree (or 
equivalent studies in a PhD program) in computer science or electrical 
engineering with basic knowledge on machine vision and computer 
graphics. Also, good mathematical and programming skills (Matlab, C/C++) 
are required.

Starting date: December 1, 2012

Duration of the fixed-term contract is, at first, one year, but it can 
be continued. The aim is to enroll into the University of Oulu Graduate 
School and complete the PhD thesis within four years. As a Finnish 
University, there is no tuition fee for the studies.

Starting salary for the position is 2200-2600 €/month (before tax), 
depending on the qualifications.

CMV (formerly Machine Vision Group) provides an inspiring and 
international research environment. The goal of our research is to 
develop novel computer vision methods and technologies that create basis 
for emerging innovative applications. For example, our pioneering work 
on Local Binary Patterns (LBP) has been widely cited in the scientific 
literature, and it has been applied in many new areas of image and video 
analysis.
