We are seeking to appoint a Professor to strengthen our Department’s research profile. We particularly welcome interest from candidates who would add to a large research group that encompasses cognitive and social psychology and the applications of these sub-disciplines. The overarching aim of this group is to make advances in cognitive and social psychology through theoretically motivated and empirically based research. A productive subset of members of this group applies this basic research to forensic/ investigative and other applied issues.

We are expanding the membership of every subgroup and are interested in making strategic developments to enhance the outputs and connectivity between them.

The Department of Psychology at Lancaster has a core complement of 27 members of academic staff and a thriving community of post-doctoral researchers and PhD students. The Department is well resourced and our group testing cognitive laboratories house extensive software for experiments, much of which is written in-house.

You should be an excellent researcher with an established international reputation and evidence of both securing external research funding and team leadership. It would be an advantage if you would also be able to demonstrate how your research could, over the course of the next decade, have a significant impact on policy and practice outside academia. You will be expected to make a significant contribution to the Department’s research and teaching, in cognitive and/or social psychology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We would also welcome contributions to our research methods and statistics teaching at both these levels.

Lancaster University is a top 10 UK University. The quality of the Department’s international research is mirrored by the quality of its teaching (e.g., The Telegraph currently features Lancaster as a top-10 UK undergraduate psychology course). The Department’s undergraduate provision and community is thriving and the postgraduate provision includes ESRC-recognized PhD and Masters programmes within the largest regional Doctoral Training Centre in the UK.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be addressed to Prof. Charlie Lewis (email:c.lewis at lancaster.ac.uk<mailto:c.lewis at lancaster.ac.uk>; Tel: 01524 593822). Further information about the Department is available at: http://www.psych.lancs.ac.uk<http://www.psych.lancs.ac.uk/>
