We seek a PhD student / doctoral student to work on a 2-year project in
the Department of Experimental Psychology, Georg-August-University
Göttingen, Germany. Salary is according to 50% German pay grade 13 TV-L
(approx. 1,500-1,600 Euro per month).

Our research group investigates the neuronal mechanisms of conscious and
unconscious information processing in human subjects. For instance, in
our recent work we have shown qualitative individual differences in the
time course of metacontrast masking (e.g. Albrecht & Mattler, 2012,
www.journalofvision.org/content/12/5/5
<http://www.journalofvision.org/content/12/5/5>). These results suggest
that the neuronal processes and mechanisms, which eventually form a
conscious percept of visual stimuli, may differ between different
observers. In this project we aim at assessing these different
mechanisms in greater detail on a behavioral and neuronal level by means
of objective discrimination data, subjective phenomenology as well as
psychophysiology (EEG, fMRI).

We expect the successful candidate to have:

-Background in Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Sciences,
Neurosciences, Biology or Physics

-Very good knowledge of experimental psychology (visual perception,
attention) and/or cognitive neurosciences

-Very good methodological skills in designing experiments and data
analysis (general linear model, factor analysis, signal detection theory)

-Interest in conscious/unconscious visual perception and/or visual masking

-Interest in methods of Cognitive Neurosciences (EEG, fMRI)

-Knowledge in or interest in learning of programming languages for
psychological experiments (MATLAB, Presentation)

-Ability to work in a team, commitment, active collaboration and
discussion within our research group.
