POST-DOC AND PHD FELLOWSHIPS IN GIESSEN WITH KARL GEGENFURTNER
Starting date: between January and April, 2013
One postdoctoral position and one PhD fellowship are available in Giessen,
Germany. The two successful candidates will join the group of Karl
Gegenfurtner at the Psychology Department of Giessen University. The lab
offers excellent facilities for studying visual perception and motor control.
We are part of a larger research group on perception and action with excellent
links to scientists within Europe and world wide. The group offers a stimulating,
multi-national and multi-disciplinary research environment for young scientists
(http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de). Giessen is a small university town, located
just 60 km north of Frankfurt, right at the center of Germany.
The postdoctoral position is linked to a project on the perception of material
properties. Planned work includes psychophysical experiments, computational
modeling, and possibly some neuroimaging. The position is for up to 24 months.
Candidates should hold a recent PhD in vision science, be proficient in Matlab,
and be fluent in English.
The PhD fellowship is linked to a European project on the perceptual
representation of illumination, shape, and material (PRISM) that links 9
European research groups (https://sites.google.com/site/prismitn/home).
The group is coordinated by Roland Fleming, who is also in Giessen.
Planned work includes psychophysical experiments on surface color
estimation. The position is for 3 years. Candidates should hold a recent
master degree in experimental or cognitive psychology, neuroscience,
computer science or a related discipline, and be comfortable in English.
Initial inquiries should be sent by email to Karl Gegenfurtner
(gegenfurtner at uni-giessen.de). Full applications should be
sent to the same address and should include a CV, a statement of research
interests, and the names of 3 people who could write a letter of
reference. Applications should be sent preferably before December 15,
2012, but later applications will be considered until the positions are
filled.
