Two Postdoctoral Positions in Behavioural Neurophysiology of Reward, Risk and Decision-Making (Neuroeconomics)
University of Cambridge
Following awards from the Wellcome Trust and the European Research Council (ERC), we are seeking postdoctoral collaborators in behavioural neurophysiology. Through parallel ads, we aim to fill additional positions in human imaging, behavioural analysis and computational neuroscience.
Our work investigates neuronal signals for fundamental behavioural variables underlying reward learning and economic decision making. We derive rationales, task designs and data interpretations from animal learning theory and economic decision theory, appreciate straightforward experimental tasks and thorough behavioural testing, perform closely related human neuroimaging studies, and collaborate with behavioural economists locally and internationally. We offer innovative projects for experimentally minded, theory driven, or general neuroscience / neuroeconomics candidates. Projects will investigate individual and social economic decisions involving reward, utility, risk, inequity and cooperation and study reward structures including dopamine neurons, striatum, amygdala and orbitofrontal cortex. We combine the candidate's own ideas with demands of the grants. For details on our group, see http://www.pdn.cam.ac.uk/staff/schultz/.
Candidates should have published experience in behavioural neurophysiology, although candidates with experience in neuroimaging, behavioural economics, quantitative experimental psychology or computational neuroscience are also welcome to apply. Training will be provided in all areas necessary for successful work. We appreciate excellent social and writing skills.
Initial deadline for applications is January 15, 2013, although the search will continue until appropriate candidates have been identified. Start date is flexible. Initial appointments will be two years, extendable. Annual salary will be £33,734 to £37,012 depending on research experience (Cambridge Univ pay scale 46-49, with ~25% deductions for taxes, insurance and health care). Applications should include CV, list of publications, half page description of research experience specific for this post (including computer programming), half page description of research interests, and contact details of two referees.
