After sampling different options, for me the clear favourite device is
made by LabJack:
http://labjack.com/
Their hardware (U3 or U6) is robust (12-22bit @ 50Khz) and reasonably
priced, and they have a robust set of open source driver options for OS
X (exodriver, LJFuse). More than anything, because they are a small
company they are extremely responsive to support questions and
suggestions for software. I've use the U6 for digital I/O to Plexon
neurophysiology hardware from Psychtoolbox, but there is an analog class
for generic Matlab code available too:
