Two positions at the postdoctoral fellow or research associate level are
available in the laboratories of Profs. Marie Burns and Edward Pugh at the
University of California, Davis. The Burns lab studies signal transduction
and synaptic transmission in the retina, in particular the physiology and
cell biology of rods and the rod pathway. The Pugh lab studies cone
physiology, cone opsin biosynthesis and trafficking, and in vivo imaging
development. We are looking for highly committed individuals with retinal
physiology or imaging experience to participate in our investigations of
retinal circuits in health and disease. Experimental approaches will
include single cell recordings, 2-photon microscopy and adaptive optics
imaging in vivo.
The Photoreceptor Lab is located in beautifully renovated space in Tupper
Hall on UC Davis’s main campus, and is associated with the Center for
Neuroscience and the Center for Visual Sciences. The Center for Vision
Science at UC Davis supports research in the basic sciences and
translational research in ophthalmology, all with a highly interactive and
collegial faculty. Davis itself is a friendly, medium-sized college town
close to the cultural attractions of San Francisco and the recreational
attractions of the Napa Valley, Sierra Nevada and Pacific coast beaches.
Applicants should have a PhD in neurobiology or related area and a strong
publication record. Experience in live cell imaging, electrophysiology, or
computational modeling is desirable. Please send CV and the names of 3
references to meburns(at)ucdavis.edu.
