UNIVERSITY OF YORK

DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Ref: 2782

A postdoctoral research position is available on an ESRC-funded project
for a period of 3 years, commencing 1 April 2013. You will work with
Professor Steve Tipper and Dr Amy Hayes on a research project entitled:
“Visuomotor states of an observer influence person perception: The
critical role of emotion”.

The project will use EMG/EEG in healthy human volunteers to investigate
the relationship between perception, action and emotion. Specifically,
the aim is to use EMG to test the hypotheses that visuomotor fluency can
influence the assessment of viewed objects and people, but only when
such processes evoke emotional reactions.

Experience with designing, conducting and analysing EMG/EEG experiments
is important. Good programming skills in at least one language, and a
good background in statistics will also be necessary. A background and
interest in some aspect of research on action perception, production or
emotion is desirable.

The work will be undertaken within the Department of Psychology, which
was rated in the top 10 departments in the most recent Research
Assessment Exercise. The Department houses a Neuroscience Centre (fMRI,
MEG, TMS, EEG) and offers a thriving research environment in the
Clinical and Cognitive Neurosciences. For more information about the
Department please visit: http://www.york.ac.uk/psychology/

Informal enquiries may be made to Steve Tipper, e-mail
s.tipper at bangor.ac.uk, or Amy Hayes, e-mail: a.hayes at bangor.ac.uk

Salary will be in the range £29,541 - £33,230 a year.

Closing date: 25th January 2013.
