Applications are invited for a fully funded PhD Student to undertake research in the area of Computer Vision and Machine Learning. The position is supported by an EU project and falls in the general area of modeling and recognition of Human Actions in large video collections. The work will build on recent developments in Computer Vision and Machine Learning for learning human facial/body/hand gestures from few examples, with emphasis on transfer learning for cross-modality, cross-category and cross-view learning.

Applicant

The applicant should have 
 - a degree (preferably MSc) in Computer Science or Electrical/Electronic Engineering 
 - excellent problem solving and analytical skills. 
 - Good programming skills and preferably experience with Matlab or C/C++.
 - Experience in one of the fields of Computer Vision and/or Machine Learning, and/or Statistical Pattern Recognition and/or Image processing. Preferably an MSc thesis in one of those areas.
 - Good mathematical background.

The studentships cover both tuition fees and a stipend.


The research will be supervised by Dr Ioannis Patras (www.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/~ioannisp/) at School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Queen Mary University of London.
