"Colour cues to material properties", a 1-day meeting of the Colour Group of Great Britain, Wednesday 13th March 2013, Pembroke College, Oxford.

Is a surface rough or smooth? Wet or dry? Glossy or matte? Can you tell if someone is "feeling a little off colour"? Properties of materials, such as plastics, paper and skin, are often readily distinguished by human observers using visual cues alone. This meeting will focus on the colour cues that convey such information, drawing on experience from visual psychophysics, human neuropsychology, colour measurement, computer vision and the perception and representation of material properties in art.

The meeting will commence at 10.00 hrs in Pembroke College's Sir Geoffrey Arthur Building (GAB), on the banks of the Isis river. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for the full day of presentations including talks by Prof. Roland Fleming (Justus-Liebig-Universität, Giessen), Prof. Marina Bloj (Bradford University), Bob Kentridge (Durham University) and Dave Perrett (University of St Andrews). After the talks there will be an optional drinks reception and viewing of the Pembroke JCR Art Collection (see: http://tinyurl.com/axpgvfa) followed by a college dinner with the speakers and other interested parties.

Registration is necessary. Further details and the registration form can be found at: http://www.colour.org.uk/meetingMarch13.html
