Location: Department of Psychology & National Magnetic Resonance Research Center, Bilkent University, Ankara (Turkey)
Contract: Full Time, 1 year, can be extended up to 3 years
A postdoctoral research position is available at Bilkent University, Department of Psychology & National Magnetic Resonance Research Center, Ankara Turkey.

The project will investigate the contributions of motion cues to object appearance, map out the interaction of static and dynamic cues, and identify cortical areas/networks responsive to motion-driven changes in object appearance. Planned work focuses on the interaction of motion, shape, and material qualities and includes psychophysical and fMRI experiments and computational modeling. Successful candidates will be offered a one-year contract, with the possibility of extension up to three years.

Requirements
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, computer science or a similar field - with a clear interest in experimental visual perception research, and fMRI. They should have a solid programming background in Matlab and/or Java. Neuroimaging skills are a strong benefit but are not required.

Bilkent University
Bilkent University is a well established non-profit private research university. Founded in 1984, it has currently more than 10,000 students and over 1000 academic staff in nine faculties, four professional schools, and six graduate schools. According to ISI Citation Indexes Bilkent University ranks first in Turkey in number of published papers per faculty member and ranks high internationally (Source: http://www.yok.gov.tr/istatistikler/istatistikler.htm). The medium of teaching and research in the University is English. www.bilkent.edu.tr

Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology at BilkentUniversity is a dynamic environment with a growing team of academics that brings together international experience and world-class research. It has been established with an emphasis on cognition and neuroscience, however it is currently also expanding into other areas, such as social-, developmental-, and clinical psychology.
Its goal is to offer excellent undergraduate education, and to advance basic and applied science in the understanding of the brain, behavior and mental health through strong research programs. Faculty are supported by EU and Turkish grants and maintain collaborative relationships with other disciplines ranging from Molecular Biology and Genetics to Engineering, Fine Arts and Economy. This interdisciplinary environment creates an excellent opportunity for students to explore different directions that their carriers within the broad field of Psychology may take on. Currently the degree offered by the Department of Psychology is a B.A. A Master’s and Ph.D program are planned to be opened in the near future.

National Magnetic Resonance Research Center (UMRAM)
The National Magnetic Resonance Research Center (UMRAM) has been established in May 2009 at Bilkent-Cyberpark with the support of the Turkish Ministry of Development. The mission of UMRAM is to promote, facilitate and conduct research on magnetic resonance imaging. The facilities include a Siemens MAGNETOM Trio A Tim System MR Scanner with a static magnetic field of 3 tesla, and a POLYSTAR Angiography machine, which are solely dedicated to research, as well as animal research, electronics and psychophysics laboratories. UMRAM brings together an interdisciplinary group of investigators to study and use the technology of magnetic resonance imaging. Currently the center consists of three research groups: Biomedical Engineering, Radiology Research and Cognitive Neuroscience.
