I'd like to ask your help in bringing the Vision Science doctoral program
at the Graduate Center for Vision Research (GCVR) to the attention of your
students. The GCVR is located at the SUNY College of Optometry in
Manhattan. Our application deadline for the PhD program is March 1.
As of January the GCVR has a new Director in Stewart Bloomfield, who
previously headed the graduate program in Neuroscience at NYU Medical
School. PhD students at the GCVR have either basic or clinical
(patient-based) research interests, or both. Tuition is covered, and a
stipend of $30,000/year is provided to all students including foreign
students. Application is highly selective. Applicants typically have a
strong quantitative/analytical background in biology, neuroscience,
physics, math, chemistry, psychophysics, or computer science.

Applicants are welcome to contact our faculty. Students are accepted into
the program rather than into a particular lab, although they should
identify probable advisers as part of the application process.
Many thanks,
Ben Backus
