A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Drs. A.M. Barrett, Mooyeon Oh-Park, and Peii Chen at the Kessler Foundation. We use a combination of behavioral, neuropsychological, and neurophysiological techniques to study spatial neglect - a common cognitive disorder following a unilateral brain injury such as a stroke. Individuals with spatial neglect typically demonstrate abnormal inattention to the space contralateral to the injured cerebral hemisphere. For example, right-brain-damaged stroke survivors with spatial neglect may fail to attend to, perceive, respond to, or act on stimuli on the left side of their body, which pathologically impede their everyday activities.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in neuroscience-related discipline (e.g., cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, cognitive neuroscience) by October 2013, have experience in analyzing and processing structural (e.g. lesion mapping, voxel-based morphometry, DTI) and functional MRI data, and should be proficient in spoken and written English. Strong programming skills for stimulus presentation and experiment design (e.g., E-Prime, MATLAB, or Presentation) and statistical modeling (e.g., STATA or R) will be valuable. Prior experience in working with clinical populations is very desirable.
Please send application with CV, the expected date of availability, contact information of three references, and a statement of research interest and career goal to Dr. Peii Chen (PChen at KesslerFoundation.org).
