Ranked very highly in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, Queen Mary is
one of the largest colleges in the University of London and one of the UK's
leading research-intensive institutions, joining the Russell Group in 2012. The
College has made a strategic commitment to world-class research and
teaching across all its disciplines. Within Queen Mary, the School of
Biological and Chemical Sciences is a large and expanding academic unit,
which provides a supportive and friendly environment and encourages
interdisciplinary research. We are embarking on a 5 year programme of
recruitment to invest in the acknowledged strengths in the school and
advance its areas of internationally-competitive activity. The School
extends from Chemistry, through all aspects of Biology to Psychology. We
have strong links with other Schools within the Faculty as well as with
Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. The School is also
embarking on an exciting joint venture with Nanchang University in
biomedicine.
Applications are invited for three positions in the Psychology
Division. Our programme approaches psychology as an experimental science
growing from roots in biology and considered in an evolutionary framework.
We are now looking for ambitious research-driven candidates with strong
track records of research outputs and potential for funding who can develop
links with existing staff. Existing strengths include:· Particular
expertise in animal cognition, language and communication, and evolutionary
and behavioural genomics.· A culture of high-impact collaborative
research within the Division.· Strong links to other research centres
and facilities at QM, including:· *The Centre for Digital Music in

· *The Augmented Human Interaction (AHI) laboratory, collaboration
between the **Interaction, Media and Communication** and the **Computer

infrastructure includes facilities for EEG, eyetracking, molecular biology
and cell culture, and significant high-throughput computational resources.
A newly-built, dedicated “baby lab” is immediately available for
research.Strong
candidates in any area relevant to biological and experimental psychology
will be considered, although we are especially keen now to recruit
expertise in* Developmental psychology, Social/Evolutionary psychology and
Cognitive psychology. *A competitive remuneration package and start-up
funds are negotiable.The School is committed to Athena SWAN principles to

consider applications from people with their own funding who wish to
explore proleptic positions in the school.
The posts are full time and permanent starting in July 2013 or as soon as
possible thereafter. The salary will be in the range of £38,197 - £47,559
for Lecturers and £50,267 - £56,185 for Senior Lecturers; per annum and
will be in accordance with the appointment level, subject to experience and
qualifications. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, childcare vouchers
scheme, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK
in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where
required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain
under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
