POSTDOCTORAL POSITION: CEREBRAL CORRELATES OF SOCIAL DECISION MAKING, MOTIVATION AND REWARD BY USING FUNCTIONAL MRI (fMRI)
Candidates are invited to apply for a two years postdoctoral position (in start with September 1st 2013) to study social decision-making, motivation and reward processing using fMRI in healthy subjects.
The research work will be performed in the Laboratory of Psychology and NeuroCognition (CNRS 5105, Pierre Mendès-France University) and in the Neuroimaging Research Center (Grenoble Hospital, Joseph-Fourier University) in Grenoble, France.
The aim of this research is to investigate cerebral networks of social decision making, motivation and reward during food consumption by conducting fMRI experiments.
Applicants can be foreign or French PhD. They must not have spent the last 3 years in France and they must have obtained their PhD since less than 7 years.
    Professional criteria:
o Experience with experimental psychology and functional magnetic resonance imaging,
o Solid background in Cognitive Neuroscience and Cognitive Psychology and especially in social decision making, motivation and reward fields,
o Experience with programming in MATLAB, C or E-Prime
o Experience with statistical analysis of behavioral and imaging data as well as with fMRI data processing (SPM).
    Additional criteria:
    o Fluent English speaker
o Ability to work independently as well as in a dynamic group,
o Ability to interact with researchers of other disciplines,
    Responsibilities:
o Perform preliminary behavioral experiments (choice and test of stimuli to be used during fMRI),
    o Build-up fMRI studies design,
o Analyse behavioural and fMRI data
    o Write scientific articles
    Salary:
    o Base: 2.000 EUR
o Additional application based on the excellence level of the candidate may be obtained (Agreenskills1.300 EUR bonus)
The Neuroimaging Center in Grenoble and the Laboratory of Psychology and NeuroCognition, Grenoble, France offer a solid research setting with access to state-of-the-art neuroimaging methodologies, including a research-only 3T MRI scanner, EEG and TMS, NIRS, as well as experimental psychology methods.
Please send your application to Pascal Hot pascal.hot at univ-savoie.fr and Monica Baciu mbaciu at upmf-grenoble.fr with the following materials: (A) a cover letter, (B) curriculum vitae including publication list, (C) research statement describing your past achievements and future interests, (D) names and contact information of two references with a brief description of your relationship to each reference.

Short description of the research project:
There has been a growing interest of policy-makers and public health advocates for evaluating the impact of tools such as taxes on unhealthy products, information campaigns and food labelling. In this project we aim at characterizing the determinants of food behaviors in order to provide a new set of tools for public food policies. A large spectrum of experimental tools will be used (from laboratory to natural field experiment). First, we are going to pinpoint behaviors that do not conform to standard assumptions of standard economic theory. There are three classes of deviation: non-standard preferences, non-standard beliefs and non-standard decision-making. These include self-control problems, limited attention, dependence to social norms, etc., and can be elicited through abstract and carefully controlled experiments. Second, the elicited preferences and subjective beliefs will be applied to food contexts in order to provide insights into how people make food decisions. Finally, we are going to propose and evaluate new policy tools aimed at taking advantage from non-standard food decisions. The neuroimaging (fMRI) is one among other approaches used in this research project and aim to assess the cerebral correlates of social decision-making, emotion, reward and motivation related to food decisions.
