         2020 Science Research Positions
------------------------------

The 2020 Science programme is now hiring. We have a number of vacancies at
CoMPLEX at the University College London.

*1) Research Associate in the Evolutionary Origin of Sexes, - Ref:1316275*
UCL Department / Division: CoMPLEX
 Grade: 7
 Hours: Full Time
Salary (inclusive of London allowance): £32,375 to £39,132 per annum

 *Duties and Responsibilities*

The 2020 Science programme; a joint collaboration between UCL, Oxford
University and Microsoft Research Cambridge, now into its second year at
UCL, is focused on producing a new generation of highly computational
natural scientists and tool builders able to apply novel approaches to
tackle fundamental problems in natural science.

The post holder will carry out research as a member of the CoMPLEX
Research Associate Programme, supervised by Prof. Andrew Pomiankowski. This
project will extend existing theoretical work to consider the evolution of
true sexes in multicellular organisms from two mating types in ancestral
protists, coincident with the development of germ/soma differentiation.

The post under the 2020 Science programme is funded for 24 months in the
first instance by the EPSRC in association with Microsoft Research. The
appointee will join four existing Research Associates appointed in 2011 and
2013 based in CoMPLEX.

 *Key Requirements*

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated researcher with a PhD
in a relevant area of science, such as: mathematical or computational
biology, computational neuroscience, computer science or biology. Research
experience of mathematical or computational modelling of complex natural
systems is essential, as well as the ability to conduct and complete
research projects, as witnessed by published peer-reviewed work.

Applicants will be expected to demonstrate experience in the modelling and
analysis of complex natural systems appropriate to the individual project
(e.g. neuromorphic computing evolutionary genetic analyses, chemical
kinetics, systems biology approaches based on differential equations).

 *Further Details*

A job description and person specification can be accessed at the bottom
