The Vanderbilt Vision Research Center (VVRC) seeks to hire a computer
analyst to help with the programming needs of a diverse group of vision
researchers. The candidate must be capable of programming sophisticated
visual displays, experimental paradigms, and analytic tools, and should
have a strong understanding of image processing, physiological signal
processing, and experimental design. In addition to writing programs for
Mac, PC, and Unix environments (typically in Matlab or C++), we seek a
candidate who can help program web-based visual experiments as well.
The VVRC is a world-class research center that focuses on a wide range of
questions in vision and eye science, including the neural and behavioral
bases of visual perception, anatomy and physiology of the visual system,
molecular mechanisms of the retina, and the diagnosis and treatment of
visual disorders. It is a highly active research environment; therefore
both strong technical and communication skills are very important for
this position.
The candidate should have a bachelor's or master's degree, with extensive
experience in programming with a wide range of skills.
Desired skills and expected areas of performance:
General programming in desktop and high-performance cluster environments: Matlab, C++, Objective C, Python
Visual display generation: Matlab Psychtoolbox (http://psychtoolbox.org<http://psychtoolbox.org/>), Cambridge Research Systems
Statistical analysis and database creation: R, MySQL
Experience with web-based programming: HTML5, PHP, Adobe Flash, AJAX, Java with JQuery, CSS, MVC, and/or Amazon Mechanical Turk
