*Open PhD position in “color calibration of a laser printing system” at
Saint-Etienne, France
*
The Laboratoire Hubert Curien (see http://laboratoirehubertcurien.fr/)
at the University Jean Monnet, Saint-Etienne, France, is searching for a
PH.D. student with a background in Color Science, and light and matter
interactions.
This PH.D position is a three year appointment*, **ideally starting fall
2013**, *and gross salary is**approximately*1685 € / month (funded by
the French Research Agency)**. *
The overall goal of the PhD position on “*Calibrating and optimizing of
a laser printing system for the reproduction of macroscopic color
images/patterns*” is to explore/investigate innovative computational
model and numerical methods based oncolor calibration methods, color
appearance models and light and matter interactions, and also to
define/implement a driver for a laser printing system.
The PH.D. student will be in charge of the color calibration of the
laser printing system on transparent and diffusing substrates, and on
the visual rendering assessment of the printed substrates in reflection
and transmission at micro and macro scales. His/her work will cover
various aspects, such as. *1) Color calibration: *Color reproducibility
assessment, halftoning algorithm, determination of the color gamut,
adaptive gamut mapping. *2) Color prediction: *contribution to the
micro-to-macro color prediction model and to the development of the
driver. *3) Color appearance: *chromatic adaptation, relation between
optical measurement and color perception, gonio-apparence assessment.
The ideal PH.D. student should hold a Master degree in computer vision,
optical imaging, or related fields. She/he should have a background in
optics and optical systems, imaging science and computer vision,
statistics or applied mathematics, optimization and linear algebra.
Applicants are expected to have an outstanding academic record, be
highly motivated and proactive, have excellent organization and
communication skills, and be eager to disseminate research results
through publications and presentations at international conferences and
seminars. Fluency in English is a prerequisite.
The applicant should also have strong programming skills and be familiar
with MATLAB and C/C++.
PH.D. student should send curriculum vitae, list of publications, copy
of academic transcripts, short description of research interests within
the project scope and a list of at least tworeferees, by email to:
