CALL FOR 2002 ATWELL AWARD NOMINATION

The Low Vision Research Group (LVRG) exists to:
=B7 promote research of high scientific quality that is of value to
individuals with low vision, and
=B7 to encourage the participation and cooperation of basic researchers,
applied researchers, optometrists, ophthalmologists, educators,
rehabilitation specialists and all other professionals who serve the need=
s
of individuals with visual impairment.
To promote high-quality research and to encourage young investigators in th=
e
area of low-vision research, the LVRG presents the Atwell Award to a young
investigator whose research in the area of low vision is presented at ARVO.
The recipient is selected from nominations made to the LVRG Program
Committee. Selection is based on the quality and promise of the research.
The recipient will receive a $500 cash award, as well as a plaque.

The following are some general guidelines for the Atwell Award nomination:
1. The nominee must be the FIRST author of the presentation.
2. The nominee should be someone who is undergoing training for an academic
degree, or who has graduated from his/her highest academic degree within
the past 5 years.
The 2002 Atwell Award recipient will be announced at our ARVO Social, which
will be held on Thursday, May 9. All nominees will be invited to the Socia=
l
free of charge. To facilitate the LVRG Program Committee in judging the
quality of the research and presentation, all nominees are expected to
submit a copy of the poster (for poster presentation) or slides (for oral
presentation) that will be presented at ARVO on or before April 22.
If you would like to nominate yourself or someone you know for the 2002

1. Name of the nominee.
2. Title and program number of the nominee's ARVO presentation.
3. A copy of the ARVO presentation.
