Fulltime Research Lab. Technician
A fulltime technician position is available for a Researcher 1 or 2 in a
primate vision research physiology laboratory at the University of Houston,
College of Optometry. The position comes with benefits and is available
immediately. Salary and level of appointment will depend on experience.

General Description for Researcher 1/2
Provides expertise through research design and implementation. Performs
advanced testing procedures and performs analyses of data. Prepares
reports. Makes uses of a variety of specialized equipment typical within
area of specialization. May contribute to grant proposal development.
Ensures experiments are performed according to specifications. May make
recommendations to changes in procedures, processes, or experimental design.
May prepare and/or edit research papers, proposals and reports. Understands
and applies fundamental theoretical concepts. Develops understanding of
advanced theoretical concepts.
Specific Duties
* Working with primates, preparing for and participation in ocular
physiology experiments, assisting in data collection and analysis.
* Assisting with sterile surgery and anesthesia.
* Day to day running and management of the lab including ordering
supplies, record keeping and general lab and equipment maintenance.
* Software usage: Excel, graphing programs, image analysis, data base
management.
* Use of ophthalmic/optometric optical instrumentation (slit-lamps,
microscopes, ultrasound).
* Use of electronic equipment (oscilloscopes, stimulators,
microphones, video cameras and recorders).
* Histology and machine shop work.
* Day to day interactions and working with graduate students.
* Participation in scientific process, presenting at meetings and
writing of papers.
Requirements
* BS degree in a biological science with 2 years lab. technician
experience.
* Prior experience with primate handling, physiology experiments and
sterile surgery.
* Proficiency using Windows based PC software.
* Experience with laboratory optical/electronic/physiological
equipment.
* Responsible, interested in learning, with initiative, willing to
rise to challenges, motivated, independent, hard working and a team player.
* Valid driver's license.
