Postdoc/Research Associate 
A fulltime Research Associate position is available in the vision research
physiology laboratory of Dr. Adrian Glasser at the University of Houston,
College of Optometry. The position comes with benefits and is available

General Description of Position
The candidate will join an active and growing research group studying
accommodation, presbyopia and accommodation restoration concepts. The
research includes physiological and optical studies on human, monkey and
enucleated eyes under NEI and industry funded grants. The position offers
extensive exposure to a range of novel and cutting edge approaches to
understand the physiology and optics of accommodation, presbyopia and
accommodation restoration concepts. This is a non-clinical research position
in an area of considerable clinical significance and relevance.

Specific Duties
*        Performing ocular physiology experiments using primates and
enucleated eyes.
*        Data collection and analysis.
*        Performing sterile and non-sterile phacoemulsification and cataract
surgical procedures in animals and enucleated human and animal eyes.
*        Testing and assessing the performance of various accommodation
restoration concepts.
*        Extensive use of Windows based image analysis and data analysis
software.
*        Use of ophthalmic/optometric optical instrumentation (slit-lamps,
microscopes, ultrasound).
*        Use of electronic lab. equipment (oscilloscopes, stimulators, video
cameras and recorders).
*        Evaluation of prototype accommodation restoration concepts.
*        Interacting with industry sponsors and preparation of research
reports.
*        Participation in scientific process, presenting at meetings and
writing of papers.

Requirements
*        MD/PhD or equivalent degrees.
*        At least one year prior research experience.
*        Experience with cataract surgery, phacoemulsification and sterile
intraocular surgery.
*        Proficiency using Windows based PC software.
*        Experience with laboratory optical/electronic/physiological
equipment.
*        Responsible, interested in learning, with initiative, willing to
rise to challenges, motivated, independent, hard working and a team player.
*        Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
