1 POSTDOCTORAL AND 1 PHD POSITION IN VISUAL PSYCHOPHYSICS
=46unds are available for two research positions in the Department of=20
Vision Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University, UK, working on the=20
study of human motion perception. The project, awarded to Dr Gunter=20
Loffler, is funded by the EPSRC and will provide support for one PhD=20
student (3 years) and one postdoc (1.5 years). The project will=20
combine psychophysics and neural modelling to study the perception of=20
shapes in motion.
The aim of this project is to study dynamic aspects of shape=20
perception. The psychophysical investigations will concentrate on=20
how human observers perceive shapes such as simple lines, angles and=20
curved contours when they are moving. A particular emphasis is on=20
the way information arising from distant parts of a scene is=20
combined. The psychophysical part will be complemented by computer=20
simulations to build an explicit model which can predict human=20
performance.
The Department of Vision Sciences consists of fifteen faculty members=20
working on diverse aspects related to vision including=20
psychophysical, computational and brain-imaging approaches.
PhD student:=20
Applications are invited from UK and other EU citizens for a 3 year=20
postgraduate research studentship, to start in November 2003 or as=20
soon as possible thereafter. Candidates should have or be about to=20
obtain a high 2.1 or First class honours degree in Psychology,=20
Optometry, Computer Science or a related discipline. Candidates=20
should have an interest in visual perception and possess good=20
programming skills, or be prepared to develop them quickly.
The studentship is approximately =A3 8,500 per annum, non-taxable.=20
Postdoc:=20
Applications are also invited for a 1.5 year postdoctoral research=20
position, to start in January 2004 or as soon as possible thereafter.=20
The ideal candidate will have, or be about to obtain, a PhD in the=20
visual sciences and experience in one or more of the following areas:=20
visual psychophysics, experimental psychology, neural modelling, or=20
computer image processing. Experience with MatLab programming is=20
very desirable.=20
Grade : RA1A
Salary : =A3 20,311
The closing date for the receipt of applications is 24 October 2003.
Informal enquiries can be made to Gunter Loffler (gloe@gcal.ac.uk).
Please send application including Curriculum Vitae, selected=20
reprints, and the names of three referees (preferably by e-mail:=20
gloe@gcal.ac.uk) to:
